DESCRIPTION

‘Phantasos’ is a sibling of ‘Morfeo’ but was never released to commerce, despite its high resistance to DED; it was introduced to the UK by Butterfly Conservation in 2006 It has a markedly different form and foliage, the dark green elliptic leaves are significantly larger than those of ‘Morfeo’. The slender structure closely resembling wych elm and as with that species, does not sucker from roots.

Dr Herling considered the tree had a potential in forestry, with its propensity to develop a single stem. Very popular host of the White-letter Hairstreak at Great Fontley.
